This is not appropriate for many businesses, as you will have significant cash tied into an asset that depreciates over time. Van leasing is perfectly suited for businesses that want to drive a new van every few years and pay for their van or fleet in manageable, monthly payments.
What Determines The Price Of My Monthly Payments And Overall Costs?
The overall cost will depend on the van that you choose and the initial deposit that you make towards the overall cost of the lease. A larger deposit will result in lower monthly payments. If you are VAT-registered, then you can claim 100% of the VAT back on payments, making leasing ideally suited for VAT-registered companies. You will need to decide on the mileage that you will cover each year and agree on this before signing the contract. You need to strike a balance between not choosing too many but ensuring that you are realistic, as you will incur penalties for exceeding mileage if you do exceed this each year.
The van will need to be returned to its original condition in terms of signage and any other additions when the lease agreement ends. There is acceptable depreciation over time, which is fine when the vehicle is returned. Damage to the vehicle will likely incur financial penalties when the van is returned at the end of the contract.
What Is Finance Leasing?
Finance leasing is a slightly different agreement, where a lessor owns an asset and leases it to you as the lessee. They are responsible for the maintenance of the asset during its lifetime, so you don’t have to worry about maintaining your van or vans. This is a great solution for those who want to lease a van without having to worry about maintenance, and then operate in the same way as van leasing. You pay for your van with manageable monthly repayments, with VAT-registered businesses being able to claim 100% back of the VAT on payments. You make the initial deposit to decide on the amount that you will pay each month.

How Long Does The Application Take?

Delays can be caused if it’s a busy period, if not all paperwork is submitted, delays in submitting documents, or anything (if raised) by the credit check. Can I Exit The Contract Early?
If you exit your lease contract early, there are significant penalties. Van leasing is a fixed agreement in which you need to reach the end of the contract before choosing a new van. This is up to 75% of the remaining payments for the first year and 50% after this. You will need to be committed to the length of the leasing contract before signing your agreement. Contract length is between 2 and 5 years, with the average being 3 years. You can lease more vans while you have a current lease deal in place.

What Checks Are Carried Out When I Return My Van or Vans?
When you return your van after the lease ends, we will inspect the vehicle. There are reasonable grounds for expected damage on the vehicle, which is classed as fair wear and tear. Any damage that occurs that is outside of this will likely incur a financial penalty. You must also remove any modifications to the van and signage when you return it, as the van needs to be returned in its original condition.
